CLASSROOM NEWS

SCIENCE - We are starting to learn about the Circulatory System.

SOCIAL STUDIES -  Students are all over the USA and Canada.  We certainly miss them as they explore new land.   Don't worry, they'll be back before you know it!

Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt: Book Cover

READING - Students are reading lots of non-fiction as they research states and provinces.  They continue to read and discuss their independent reading books as well.  We are starting a class book called Tuck Everlasting.  The big question in this story is, "Would you want to live FOREVER?"  We'll be studying concepts such as symbolism, similes and metaphors.   Click HERE for a sample of what the students are reading.   Please remember that students should be reading a minimum of 20-30 minutes each night.  They should record the pages that they read on their reading calendar.  If the calendar is ever misplaced, an extra copy can be printed out at our classroom documents page

WRITING - Students are obviously doing lots of writing in their Journey projects.  They write a journal entry for each state they visit.  We are also still publishing our realistic fiction pieces.

MATH - In math we are learning how to use data and about adding and subtracting fractions.  Click HERE for the parent letter on this unit.

TECHNOLOGY - Students are learning how to effectively use the web to research and report during our Journey project.

We shared a fun day together before our December break.  We participated in a sing-a-long, read while drinking hot chocolate, decorated cookies and enjoyed a fantastic presentation on antique toys by Mr. Floyd.  Click HERE to see part of our day.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!  Check out the video of our very first snowfall.  We took a quick break from math to try and catch some snowflakes on our tongues!
100_1690.jpg (214190 bytes) In science we have been using microscopes to observe many interesting items.  Here are some pictures of our young scientists observing fish scales and human hair.
capitolpic.jpg (130843 bytes) We experienced a lot during our trip to Albany.  We visited the assembly and senate chambers in the capitol building.  We traveled  42-stories up to the Corning Tower observation deck (which happens to be the tallest building in New York State outside of New York City).  The state museum was another stop where some of us even had a chance to ride a historical carousel.  Click HERE to see the pictures from the day.

Our Halloween party was a lot fun.  Click HERE to see some of the friendly and scary faces in the classroom!

Our Mission Statement Video was presented last week at Lynnwood's Share & Celebrate.  The students did a terrific job helping to film and produce this video.  We hope you enjoy it.

What would life be without rules?  We started our unit on the U.S. Constitution and Government with a crazy kickball game that had no rules!

This year we are helping join Peyton and Eli manning to help donate 1 million books to kids in need.  All we have to do is read 100 books as a class by the end of December.  Click HERE to see the kickoff video for the program with Peyton and Eli.
