Dear Parents,

For a culminating activity to our studies this year, we are in the process of planning an exciting field trip to Boston, Massachusetts for all fifth graders.  Our itinerary is close to being finalized.   We are planning on visiting the Museum of Science, participating in an exciting Duck Tour of historic Boston and taking a self-guided walking tour of Quincy Market for dinner and shopping.  This trip is planned for Thursday, June 17, 2010.

Our day will begin at the Museum of Science.  Here we will be able to explore the hands-on Human Body exhibit along with the many other exciting science stations.  After the museum, we will embark on an 80-minute Duck Tour of historic Boston.  Our “con-duck-tor” will guide us past many historic Boston landmarks and will include a voyage on the Charles River.  That’s right, the tour is on land and water!  After the Duck Tour, we will travel over to historic Quincy Market where we can enjoy dinner and stroll along the many shops and sites.  Following dinner at Quincy Market, we will depart for Lynnwood.  To learn more about the places that we will visit, you may want to visit the following websites:

We are estimating the cost for your child to be around $60 for this trip.  Any fundraising that you have participated in this year will help reduce the cost.  One or two more fundraising opportunities are planned for this year.  Of course, all fundraising is for those who wish to participate and is not a required activity.

We would love to have you as a chaperone for this trip.  If you are interested in being a chaperone, please let us know by Friday, February 5 so that we may complete our reservations.  There is room on the bus for one chaperone per student.  The chaperone cost for the day could be slightly higher depending on fundraising and the cost of adult tickets.

We will be providing you with many more details about this trip and any fundraising activities as the year progresses.   Until then, we are requesting a $20.00 deposit per student and $20 per chaperone.  We will use these deposits to hold our reservations.  Please only write a check and only make it payable to Mr. Mell’s, Mrs. Augstell’s, Mr. Miller’s or Mrs. Ball’s Fifth Grade Class.  We are also asking that parents complete the field trip forms on the following page.

We hope you are as excited as the children and we are about this exiting opportunity.  It is going to be a very memorable day.
