Welcome to our base camp for the 2008 PolarTrec Expedition. The scientists in Mr. Mell's fifth grade class will be communicating with other scientists aboard the Swedish icebreaker Oden to help study the Antarctic seas. Mr. Penneston will be our main contact person aboard the ship. Stay tuned for more updates!
Mr. Peneston visited Lynnwood a week before he left for the voyage. He collected our classroom flag to fly on the Olden and provided us with lots of information about Antarctica and the expedition. Mr. Peneston was not only very knowledgeable, but a very funny guy. We learned, and laughed, a lot!

EXPEDITION TOOLS

Mr. Peneston will board the Swedish Icebreaker Oden in Montevideo, Uruguay. From there, the team will travel south down the eastern shoreline of South America. After rounding the tip of South America, the Oden will cross the Southern Ocean to McMurdo Station, Antarctica, the largest research station in Antarctica.
